The Banaripara Pourashava forms in 22nd July 1990 under the jurisdiction of Banaripara Upazila of Barisal Zila. It lies between 22°45 and 22°52 north latitudes and between 90°02 and 90°13 east longitudes. The Pourashava is bounded on the north by Saidkati Union and Saliabakpur union, on the west by Baisari Union and Banaripara Union, on the south by Shandhya River and on the east by Saliabakpur Union.

Banaripara, the smallest Pourashava of the Barisal Zila in respect of area. This area came into existence in 1980. Different views and tales about the Upazila name pronounces. Some of the people of the local area uses to say that the name “Banaripara” derives from the word, “Bania” means businessman. Those businessmen influences the Pourashava area in respect of administration and business. Another belief is that, large numbers of monkey (means Banar in Bangla) lives in the Banaripara Pourashava. Therefore, the name derives from the word “Banar’.

One of the major objectives of the Master Plan pronounces as to guide long-term growth within the Structure Plan Area. The concept includes means of demarcation of the future growth areas and indication of potential locations of major development areas. Growth area and development area further includes: a) indication of important physical infrastructure; and b) setting out policy recommendations for future development.
