In Bangladesh, there are different systems of medicine. Those systems enforce by particular regulation. The system of medicine is as follows: 1) Unani and Ayurvedic system of medicine, means the Unani Tib and Ayurvedic (including the Siddha) system of medicine. The system may supplement or not by such modern advances as the Board (Bangladesh Board of Unani and Ayurvedic), from time to time, determine.

2) Homeopathic system of medicine means the system of medicine founded by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann.

3) Allopathic system of medicine includes all the medicines except Unani and Ayurvedic and Homeopathic system of medicines.

There is a word named institution, which classifies into three groups, dental institution, medical institution and private medical institution. ‘Dental institution’ means any institution, which trains for, or grants or both trains for and grants degrees, diplomas, or licenses in dentistry. ‘Medical institution’ means any institution, within or outside Bangladesh, which trains for, or grants or both trains for and grants degrees, diplomas, or licenses on medicine. ‘Private medical institution’ means a medical institution not recognized by the Government.

The word ‘medicine’ regulates by the different Ordinances and structures (such as shops, laboratories, godowns, etc.), which means modern scientific medicine and includes surgery and obstetrics, but does not include veterinary medicine and surgery.
