Surveys
In order to identify major causes of the congestion and nature of the problem of transportation networks, a number of tasks chooses. Those tasks include traffic volume counting at directions, speed and delay studies. Origin – Destination (O-D) survey at major traffic generating intersections and consultation with the stakeholders regarding the generated problems also considers. Volume and movement pattern of people and goods within the Pourashava collects through a series of surveys and O-D survey.
In addition, to collect information on volume and pattern of traffic movement by traffic survey, certain important questions regarding people’s attitude and preferences also accommodates.
Existing Roads
The planning area covers 7.56 sq. km. (1868.39 acres) and road length 73.46 km. One Regional Highway runs through the Pourashava and links a number of Connector Roads and Access Roads. Regional Highway is the major arterial road of the Pourashava. It provides connection with Patuakhali and Barisal. Three important road intersections named Bus stand Mor, Bazar Mor and Natun Bazar Mor available in the Pourashava. Those intersections provide linkages with other access roads. Those access roads are Bazar Mor to Sadar Road, Bazar Mor to Thana Road, Bazar Mor to Dak Banglo Road, Bus Stand to LGED Road, Bus Stand to Natun Bazar Sarak, Bus Stand to Maddhyapara Road Natun Bazar Mor to Launch Ghat Road (to North-West), Natun Bazar Mor to Launch Ghat Road (to South-East), Natun Bazar Mor to Dak Banglo Road, Natun Bazar Mor to Kakchira Road.
Responsible Authorities
Roads of the Patharghata Pourashava belongs to number of agencies. Those agencies perform responsibilities according to their jurisdiction. Roads and Highways Department (RHD) responsible for Regional Highway. Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) responsible for construction and maintenance of Upazila and Union roads. Patharghata Pourashava is responsible for construction and maintenance of roads within the Pourashava area.
