Bauphal Pourashava, the second largest Pourashava of Patuakhali Zila in respect of area. It forms as a police station in 1974, upgrades as Upazila in 1983 and Pourashava in 2001. Name of the Pourashava originates from a jungle fruit available in the area, locally known as Bauphal. Physiographically, Bauphal Pourashava seems like other Pourashavas (who are on low-floodplain) in Bangladesh. Except some areas of northeast and northwestern part, other areas cover by vast track of agriculture land. In the Pourashava, Ward No. 2, 7 and 8 developed than other Wards.

The Pourashava lies between 22°19′ and 22°36′ north latitudes and 90°25′ and 90°40′ east longitudes.
