Conceptualization of the Transportation Plan

Transportation system directs the urban development pattern. Performance of the transportation system largely influences the economy and social progress of an area. It provides mobility of people, goods and services to their destination and maintains linkages with other sections of development. Transportation and Traffic Management Plan covers scope of improvement of the existing network system and plan proposals for new development. The proposals on improvement and new development presents in the plan considers the period up to the year 2031. The Transportation and Traffic Management Plan also provides purpose and rule involves with Transportation and Traffic Management issues.

Approach and Method

In order to identify major causes of the congestion and nature of the problem of transportation networks, a number of tasks perform. Those tasks include traffic volume counting at both directions. Speed and delay studies, Origin – Destination (O-D) survey at major traffic generating intersections count using a number of surveyors. Consultation with the stakeholders regarding generated problems emphasize as primary importance. Volume and movement pattern of people and goods within the planning area collects through a series of surveys and O-D survey.

In addition, to collect information on volume and pattern of traffic movement by traffic survey, certain important questions regarding people’s attitude and preferences accumulates.
