The Banaripara Pourashava forms in 22^nd July 1990 under the jurisdiction of Banaripara Upazila of Barisal Zila. It lies between 22°45‘ and 22°52‘ north latitudes and 90°02‘ and 90°13‘ east longitudes. The Pourashava bounds on the north by Saidkati Union and Saliabakpur union, on the west by Baisari Union and Banaripara Union, on the south by Shandhya River and on the east side by Saliabakpur Union.

The Pourashava categorizes as ‘Ga’ (the term ‘Ga’ is the Bangla word means second category or ‘C’ category). The concern Ministry uses this word for fund allocation and administrative arrangement. The Pourashava consists with 9 Wards and 2 mouzas. The Banaripara Pourashava is situated at southern part of Bangladesh and about 180 km. (through Maowa) away from the Dhaka City.

Existing jurisdiction of the Pourashava calculates 460.07 acres (1.86 sq. km.) as a Planning area and Structure Plan area also.  Among the nine Wards, Ward No. 9 covers largest area (112.34 acres) and Ward No. 8 smallest (18.37 acres).
