Age-sex structure
In the Pourashava, 51% people are male and 49% female. About 38% population of the Bauphal Pourashava are within the age-group 26 – 57 years followed by 26.9% in 16 – 25 years and 20% in 6 – 15 years. It is noticed that economically active population within the age-group 26 – 57 years are prominent. Again, 32.1% male are within the age-group 26 – 57 years followed by 29.2% in the 16 – 25 years. It signifies economically active population within the age-group 26 – 57 years. Furthermore, 44.1% female are within the age-group 26 – 57 years followed by 24.3% within 16 – 25 years. This also illustrates economically active female population within the age-group 26 – 57 years.
Household size
Household size ranges from 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 and 12+ members. Most prevalent household size is 4-6 members in the Pourashava and also in Bangladesh. There are single and joint family systems in the planning area. Ward No. 2 and 7 deserves highest percentage. Again, 4-6 member family found in Ward No. 1 and highest joint-family system is in the Ward No. 5. Most of the family in the Pourashava is single family.
Educational status
Literacy rate (52.6%) of Bauphal Pourashava is quite similar with compared to Barisal Zila and National level. In educational status, 24.3% people are between Classes VI to X, 14.6% Class I to V, 14.8% SSC and 15.2% illiterate.
Primary occupation
There are variations in the types of occupations among the Wards of the Pourashava. Among the males, 25.3%, 10.1% and 4.3% respectively are engaged in agriculture, small business and large business. On the other hand, 51.3% are housewives and 10.6% students. Further, 21.4% household head earn Tk. 10,000 – Tk. 15000, 3.6% below than Tk. 2500, 19.3% Tk. 10000 to Tk. 15000, 8.6% Tk. 15,000 – Tk. 20,000 and 6.4% above Tk. 20000 per month.
