Manpower planning  defines in the following ways-

A process of analyzing an organizations human resources needs under changing conditions. Developing the activities necessary to satisfy these needs (Walker, 1980).

A process for determining and assuring that the organization deserves an adequate number of qualified persons. They available in a proper time, perform jobs which meet the needs of the enterprises and which provide satisfaction for the individuals involved (Beach,1975).

The process of forecasting future human resource needs of an organization.  So that steps can takes to ensure that these needs are met (Teresa, 1999).

The above definition shows different perception of manpower planning. Imply manpower planning in an on-going process (integrated approach), not at once and for all phenomenon.

The term ‘Manpower Planning’ at organizational or corporate level also known as micro-human resources planning. It associates with personnel management or personnel administration.

Some of the necessities of  manpower planning in organization presents below-

  • Cope with changes in competitive forces, market, technology, product and government regulations on personnel administration.
  • Ensure that the organization continue to maintain adequate stock of scarce, skilled and experienced manpower.
