Former District Council re-names as Zila Parishad. Zila Parishad considers as a local government authority in district level administrative body. According to the Local Government, 1976, a Zila Parishad composes with –

Such number of elected Members; official Members and women Members as prescribes by the Government. But the total number of elected members will not less than the total number of official members and women members. Total number of women members will not more than one-tenth of the total number of elected members and official members.

The elected members of a Zila Parishad will be elected by direct election on the basis of adult franchise in accordance with the provisions of this Ordinance and the rules.

The holders of such offices specify by the Government considers as ex-officio and the official members of a Zila Parishad.

Prescribed authority among women of the district will nominate the women members of a Zila Parishad.

A Zila Parishad shall, in the prescribed manner, elect one of its elected or women members as a Chairman and another its Vice-Chairman.

The Chairman and Vice-Chairman of a Zila Parishad will receive such honorarium as prescribed.
