The Plan for Urban Services covers existing Pourashava area of Tungipara including immediate surroundings and calculates ten to fifteen years time-frame (from 2010 to 2020 or 2025). The Plan concerns with the area where services will be located based on the expected development. It also indicates how the Structure Plan policies will govern on the areas and the standard for services calculates based on the population forecast. Outline of the Plan gives guidance to the Pourashava how the urban services will be developed and be promoted, maintained with a coordinated manner.
The Plan prepares into five main parts. The parts include existing condition and demand of the services, implementation strategies, proposal, regulation needs for the establishment and management of the services, monitoring and evaluation of the plan. Water supply, sewerage facility, electricity, telephone and gas supply considers as major concern of this plan.
The Pourashava seems too poor in development of urban services. With the development of physical condition, substantial developmentĀ needs for those services. Drinking water supply, sewerage, sanitation facilities and dumping of solid waste emphasizes as primary consideration. All the people (except 0.03%) depends on hand tubewell for drinking water. In the Pourashava, 2500 tubewell exists and most of them contaminates with iron and arsenic. Absent of solid waste dumping ground creates health hazards. Absence of covered drain and sewerage system creates sanitation problem. Those problems need to remove through proper planning and design.
Type of urban services that considers within the Pourashava indicates below:
Water supply
Water supplies by underground pipes of various diameters. The closer they are to the original source of treated water, the larger the pipe and therefore, trench to accommodate it. Those pipes need to contain within road reserves.
Sewerage facilities
If a sewerage network install, the sewerage originating throughout the Pourashava would be carried by means of underground pipes and culverts. These will accommodate within road reserves.
