Tungipara, the smallest Pourashava of Gopalganj Zila in respect of both area and population. Nothing is definitely known about the origin of the Upazila name. It is said that the Upazila might have derived its name from the mouza called Tungipara where headquarters is located.

Nature of the plan means that its content remain valid up to the plan implementation period. However, in the rapid change of urban development circumstances, it prudent that the plan reviewes at regular intervals, say 5 years.

During demarcation of Structure Plan area, urban development along both sides of major regional road and around the market places emphasizes. Development along the Tungipara to Gopalganj Road via Ghonapara and Patgati to Rajoir via Kotalipara considers. Due to the growth and potentiality of those roads accommodation of urban development activities emphasize in the Structure Plan.
