Among two model of regional development, applied in Canada, the place-based model can be assumed more effective from the previous experience in Canada than urban-industrial and         manufacturing model for regional development.

Place-based model –

  • supports maximum utilization of local capacity and resources
  • develops leadership
  • improves social capital
  • Makes capable a region to find its own solution for its own problems
  • Ensures participation of local people
  • Focuses on social, cultural and environmental well-being of a region with the economic well-being
  • Provides opportunity for public-private partnership
