Physical Infrastructure Development
Some segmented and sporadic physical development roles over the years in different parts of the Bakerganj Pourashava. At northern part, a small portion of Tulatuli River forms Pourashava boundary. Runshi khal / canal connects Tulatuli River and flows north to southeast. Most of the lands on both sides of canals use as residential development and agricultural purposes. Commercial development expands along both sides of the Highway Link Road, Kaliganj Road and Patuakhali Link Road. Administrative structures mostly stands at Ward No. 1 and 5.
Bakerganj Pourashava includes saw mill, factory and agro-based industries. Though the industrial development in Bakerganj seems low, some agro-based mills concentrate in the Ward No. 6 and 7.
In the Pourashava, predominant percentage of land devotes for agricultural purposes. Agricultural lands mostly develops in potential core area and fringe area. However, major concentration observes in the Ward No. 1, 6, 7, 8 and 9.
Residential structures mostly develops in core area. Every Ward more or less is developed with residential establishment and Ward No. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 deserves highest concentration of residential establishment.
No public park found in the Pourashava except playgrounds under the jurisdiction of educational institutions.
Existing natural physical structure of the Bakerganj Pourashava is being interrupted by the existing built environment, in the recent years. Those development encroaches water bodies such as river, khals and the existing fertile land. Such conversion identifies as very much detrimental for conserving biodiversity. Further, existing physical development grabs agriculture land as much as possible which will create danger on the food security and also on the economic base of the Pourashava.
