The primary road acts as through-route, taking traffic from Pourashava to other centers in the region or the country. Avoiding the need for this through-traffic, vehicles uses internal roads of the Pourashava. The route intends high capacity and fast flowing. In the case of existing roads in Pourashava (designated as secondary and tertiary roads), this requires the introduction of side collector roads. Restrict entry onto the main carriageways from roadside development. Without this, the road will not be able to fulfill the given function.
The road network proposes in the Transport Plan considers the Structure Plan policies, as follows:
Gopalganj Link Road (Primary road)
A new link road from Tungipara to the Gopalganj By-pass Road proposes for short and easy accessibility from western part of the Tungipara Pourashava. This link road designates as Gopalganj Link Road.
Rajoir via Kotalipara Link Road (Primary road)
This link road connects the Tungipara to Dhaka-Barisal Highway through Kotalipara at the Rajoir intersection. At present, this link road uses as local road. Emphasize has given to improve this local road as a Regional Highway. Vehicles from northern part (Barisal region and Dhaka region) through Maowa use this link road. This is a shortest distance to reach Tungipara from Dhaka, Barisal and Madaripur.
Other road links which deserves priority attention and contributes a lot in reducing pressure on the inner roads of Pourashava presents as follows:
- More 35 link roads including existing and the proposal of LGED and Roads and Highways Department proposes in the Tungipara Pourashava. Those roads present in the Table-2.8.
- Regional road widening and improvement from Patgati to Ghonapara.
- Widening and improvement of regional road from Patgati to Kotalipara.
- Widening and improvement of local road from Kotalipara road within Ward No. 7, 6, 5 and 4.
- Needs widening and improvement of local road from middle of the Kotalipara road within Ward No. 5 and 6 towards east.
- New 3 bridge proposes on the Baghiar River in different locations and presents in the Map.
An initiative should be taken to develop an effective and efficient arterial road network, which could provide a gridiron system with lots of alternative links for movement in different directions.
